Summer carillon concert series

There are still four chances to catch one of these great, free, outdoor concerts! DU’s carillonneur Carol Jickling Lens is performing this Sunday, July 14 at 7 p.m. on the Williams Carillon (in DU’s Ritchie Center). Grab your lawn chair, picnic dinner and some friends to listen to the sound of the bells while enjoying a warm Colorado summer evening.

Guitarist and alumnus Chris Broderick rocks out nightly as lead guitarist for Megadeth

A guitarist in local heavy-metal bands when he first started studying at the Lamont School of Music in the 1990s, Chris Broderick took a break from his studies when he was enlisted to play in Colorado-based band Jag Panzer in 1997. That led to a stint as a touring guitarist with Seattle-based band Nevermore, then to his current gig—lead guitarist for thrash-metal legend Megadeth, the band founded in 1983 by ousted Metallica member Dave Mustaine. Along the way, Broderick found time to finish his bachelor of music in 2005.

Meeting minutes – May 13

Lamont Alumni Association Meeting

May 13, 5:30 p.m.

In attendance: Katie Watt, Paul Brooks, Ron Torp, Kerry Walsh, Joann Birsa, Ben Gerig

Order of business: finalize plans for the LAA graduation party.

When: June 2, 2:30 – 6 p.m.

What: Food will be provided by LAA members, guests will bring their own beverages

Who: Graduating students (we’ve obtained an email list from Lamont; there are 113 students graduating this year!); all LAA members; local alumni (we don’t have a comprehensive email list. Katie will post the info on Facebook and the new webpage and take RSVPs via email.); Lamont staff alumni

How: We will facilitate carpools. The evite will include the carpool meeting time and place, which will be Joy Burns Plaza at 2 p.m. It will also ask people to say with their RSVP whether they need a ride or can give a ride.
